Download MSCONFIG
Windows 2000 does not have msconfig, but the Windows XP version of msconfig will work quite well on Windows 2000. As a telephone tech for Microsoft I had many of my Windows 2000 customers download it. It greatly simplifies troubleshooting in Windows 2000, and can be used to get to safe mode when having difficulty using the usual techniques. Do not try to use the versions of msconfig from Windows 9x or Vista on Windows 2000.

If your protection software objects to your downloading EXE files, download the following instead, then rename the extension:
Save it in the system folder (normally C:\WINNT) on your Windows 2000 system, and you can start it anytime with Start > Run > msconfig.
